Attualmente molte ricerche e articoli scientifici rilevano un significativo aumento del fenomeno della dipendenza in Europa e negli Stati Uniti, allertando sull’emergenza di fronteggiare questa situazione. Il presente articolo illustra dapprima cosa si intenda per dipendenza, a partire da quanto descritto nei principali manuali diagnostici (DSM-5, ICD-10) e nella prospettiva di alcuni illustri studiosi. Successivamente, viene descritta la diffusione delle dipendenze sul territorio italiano, con particolare riferimento all’età adolescenziale. I dati risultano clinicamente significativi, sia per ciò che concerne i disturbi correlati all’uso di sostanze sia per le varie forme di dipendenze comportamentali. Ad esempio, in Italia si rilevano 35 milioni di persone che accedono quotidianamente alle piattaforme social per circa 6 ore al giorno, rischiando di compromettere le proprie attività e abilità sociali. Pertanto, gli obiettivi del presente articolo, quali presentare le varie tipologie di dipendenze attuali e introdurre il tema della smartphone addiction, possono aiutare i professionisti a inquadrare lo scenario moderno. Ciononostante, è necessario continuare ad approfondire tale tematica tramite ulteriori studi scientifici al fine di indicare dei metodi specifici di prevenzione e di trattamento di queste problematiche.

Nowadays, numerous scientific reports point to the increasing phenomenon of addiction in Europe and the USA, thus highlighting the need to cope with this situation. This article begins with a description of addiction from the main diagnostic manuals (DSM-5, ICD-10) and from the perspective of several acknowledged experts. Next, it analyses the occurence of this phenomenon in Italy, particularly focusing on adolescents. Data is clinically relevant, both for substance related disorders and behavioural addiction. For example, in Italy there are 35 million people who daily access social platforms for about 6 hours a day, which has an impact on their beahaviour and social relations. The aim of the article is to provide an overview of the current situation in the area of addiction, which might serve as an introduction to the research on the phenomenon of smartphone addiction. Further detailed research is needed to identify specific ways to prevent and treat these problems.

Współcześnie wiele raportów naukowych ukazuje wzrost zjawiska uzależnienia w Europie i USA, podkreślając potrzebę radzenia sobie z tą sytuacją. Artykuł zaczyna się od opisu uzależnienia w głównych podręcznikach diagnostycznych (DSM-5, ICD-10) oraz z perspektywy kilku uznanych ekspertów. Następnie analizuje jego występowanie we Włoszech, szczególnie w odniesieniu do nastolatków. Zjawisko uzależnienia jest opisywane zarówno z punktu widzenia klinicznego, jak i behawioralnego. Na przykład we Włoszech jest 35 milionów ludzi, którzy codziennie korzystają z platform społecznościach przez około 6 godzin, co wpływa na ich zachowania i relacje społeczne. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie współczesnego obrazu uzależnień, co jest jednocześnie wstępem do prowadzonych badań nad zjawiskiem uzależnienia od smartfonu. Konieczne są dalsze szczegółowe badania w celu określenia konkretnych sposobów zapobiegania tym problemom i ich leczenia.
