Na podstawie analizy tekstów starotestamentalnych, ukazuje on obecne w nich różnorakie znaczenia motywu soli. Wyniki naszej pracy, uzupełnione o badanie innych pism judaizmu I w. (np. starotestamentalne apokryfy, pisma żydowskich pisarzy pozabiblijnych, pisma wspólnoty z Qumran, najstarsze tradycje rabiniczne zawarte w Talmudzie, inne pisma Nowego Testamentu i nowotestamentalne apokryfy), mogą przyczynić się do właściwej interpretacji słów Jezusa, który nazywając swoich uczniów „solą ziemi”, wyraźnie zamierzał podkreślić rolę, jaką mają oni do spełnienia wobec świata.

This article is a contribution to interpretation of two metaphorical statements of Jesus from the Sermon on the Mount, with which he defines the identity of his disciples: "the salt of the earth" and "the light of the world" (Mt 5:13-14). Based on the analysis of Old Testament texts, it shows the various meanings of the salt motif present in them. The results of our work, accompanied by an analysis of other writings of 1st century Judaism (e.g., the Old Testament Apocrypha, writings of Jewish extra-biblical writers, the writings of the Qumran community, the oldest rabbinic traditions in the Talmud, other New Testament writings and the New Testament Apocrypha), may contribute to accurate interpretation of the words of Jesus, who describing his disciples as "the salt of the earth", clearly intended to emphasize the role they have to fulfil in the world.
