Lean Management (LM) jako koncepcja zarządzania organizacją ma swoje źródło w Systemie Produkcyjnym Toyoty (Toyota Production System – TPS). Podstawą koncepcji Lean Management stało się zidentyfikowanie przez T. Ohno siedmiu typów marnotrawstwa; ich ograniczanie lub wręcz eliminacja jest głównym celem koncepcji. To właśnie w tych procesach upatruje się możliwości podnoszenia efektywności funkcjonowania całej organizacji. Celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie Lean Management jako koncepcji zarządzania organizacją oraz identyfikacja sposobu pomiaru poziomu jej realizacji w organizacji i charakterystyka podstawowego jej narzędzia, tj. organizacji miejsca pracy. Autorka podejmuje próbę odpowiedzi na następujące pytania badawcze: 1. Jaka jest geneza koncepcji Lean Management w naukach o zarządzaniu oraz czym się charakteryzuje ta koncepcja? 2. Jak można dokonać pomiaru poziomu realizacji koncepcji Lean Management w organizacji? 3. Jak organizacja miejsca pracy może przyczynić się do implementacji koncepcji Lean Management w organizacji? W artykule wykorzystano metodę analizy literatury.

Lean Management (LM), as the management concept in the organization, has its roots in Toyota Production System – TPS. The basis of lean concept was the identification of seven types of waste performed by T. Ohno. Waste elimination becomes a basic aim of Lean Management concept. In waste reduction or even elimination process organizations have seen their chance of success in increasing the efficiency of the whole organization. The aim of the article is to present Lean Management as the management concept as well as to identify the measurement tool for assessing the implementation level of Lean Management concept in organization. The aim of the paper is also to describe the basic tool of Lean Management i.e. workplace organization (5S). There are three main research questions involved in the article: 1. What is the genesis of Lean Management concept in management science and how can be described this concept? 2. How can we measure the level of implementation the Lean Management concept in organization? 3. How the workplace organization can contribute to the implementation Lean Management concept in organization? The analysis of literature is the main method used in the paper.
