Wędrówki górskie cieszą się coraz większym zainteresowaniem turystów. Najbardziej powszechną i ogólnie dostępną formą przemierzania tego typu krajobrazu jest turystyka piesza. Liczne wartości zdrowotne i społeczne, niejednokrotnie opisywane w literaturze, decydują o znaczącej roli tego typu aktywności w życiu człowieka. Każdego roku miliony turystów przemierzają górskie szlaki. Pojawienie się w górach tak licznej grupy skutkuje wprost proporcjonalnym wzrostem zagrożenia dla ich zdrowia, a nawet życia. Niestety liczba wypadków w górach nie spada. Dlatego podjęto próbę szczegółowej analizy charakteru wypadków w odniesieniu do występujących w górach zagrożeń. Materiałem źródłowym do rozważań były karty wypadków służb ratowniczych funkcjonujących w Sudetach Środkowych i Wschodnich, Tatrach oraz Bieszczadach.

For years eager mountaineers have been endorsing the opinion of extraordinary character of mountain hiking. Its attributes, as described by literature, provide a solid foundation for the thesis of its significance for the welfare of human beings which makes millions of tourists visit mountains to verify and enjoy their peculiar qualities. However, considerable rise in the number of tourists frequenting the areas will result in the proportionally increasing threat not only to their health but to life as well. Hikers should be aware of hazards occurring in the mountains. Notwithstanding the prevailing conditions, nature of the landforms, tourist skills and abilities, dangers that each visitor is exposed to are alike. Even the very presence in mountainous surrounding may entail potential risk that rescue teams are expected to minimize as a last resort. Unfortunately, the number of accidents has failed to decrease, therefore the authors of the paper made an attempt to analyse in detail the nature of the accidents occurring in terms of the possible threats faced in the mountain environment. The research was based on the accident cards drawn by rescue teams in Central and Eastern Sudety, the Tatra Mountains and the Bieszczady Mountains.
