Artykuł jest oparty na nieznanych dotąd źródłach archiwalnych ukazujących rozwój medycyny weterynaryjnej w Wilnie, głównie w okresie istnienia Akademii Medyko-Chirurgicznej, a więc w latach 1831-1842. Źródłami tymi są: wykłady, historie chorób, dziennik szpitala dla zwierząt i receptariusz dla kliniki terapeutycznej dla zwierząt, przechowywane w Państwowym Archiwum Historycznym Litwy i bibliotekach naukowych w Wilnie. Przedstawiono powstanie wileńskiej szkoły weterynaryjnej i zasługi w tym zakresie Ludwika Bojanusa (1776-1827), organizację i działalność reaktywowanego w 1834 r. szpitala dla zwierząt, którym kierował Adam Ferdynand Adamowicz (1802-1881) oraz okoliczności sporządzania pierwszych ekspertyz dotyczących epizootii. Ponadto na kilku przykładach wykazano, jak diagnozowano i leczono choroby zwierząt, a także jaki był stosunek miejscowego społeczeństwa do zwierząt gospodarskich i domowych.

The article is based on still unknown primary sources concerning the development of veterinary medicine in Vilnius, mainly in the period of the Medical-Surgical Academy, that is in 1831-1842. These sources are: lectures, case studies, a veterinary hospital register, and a prescription book for the therapeutic clinic for animals, kept in the Lithuanian State Historical Archive and some libraries in Vilnius. Ludwig Bojanus’s (1776-1827) contribution to the foundation of the veterinary school in Vilniusis presented, as well as activity of the hospital for animals, run by Adam Ferdynand Adamowicz (1802-1881), and circumstances of making of first veterinary expert opinions. Moreover, there are a few examples how animal diseases were diagnosed and treated at that time. A relationship of local society to animals before almost two centuries is analyzed too.
