The New Mestiza' is a critical overview of the manifesto of oppressed minorities, such as the Chicanos, women, queer. The book, written is 1987, deals mainly with the painful relations between 'white America' and Chicano peoples who live in the former land of Aztlan - today's Southwest of the United States. The critics aims at questioning the imperative of a resistance through seeing the excluded identity as opposed to the dominant one. The term la facultad, used by the author to describe the ability to see beyond our analytical mind or a casual consciousness, implies ways to overcome the violence which is an aftermath or the 'I' - 'the other' dichotomy. The theoretical areas that are concerned with the project of new subjectivity are: post-colonial studies, gender studies, feminism, queer studies as well as other sub-disciplines of the contemporary cultural studies.
