Teza/cel artykułu - Artykuł omawia zagadnienie „czytelnictwa rodzinnego” i wyjaśnia rolę biblioteki w nowej formie obsługi czytelników. Jako przykład modelowych placówek realizujących koncepcję „family literacy” przedstawiona jest sieć amerykańskich bibliotek pod nazwą „Family Place Libraries”. Metody badań - W celu opracowania tekstu dokonano analizy dostępnej literatury przedmiotu, zwłaszcza zagranicznej. Wnioski poparte zostały własnymi obserwacjami i doświadczeniami. Wyniki/wnioski - Ze względu na swoją atrakcyjność i pozytywne wyniki, jakie osiąga sieć amerykańskich bibliotek rodzinnych, zaleca się wprowadzenie elementów omawianej koncepcji w rodzimych placówkach. Artykuł poszerza wiedzę na temat usług bibliotecznych dla rodzin oraz najmłodszych użytkowników bibliotek.

Objective – The author discusses "family readership" and explains the role of libraries in the new model of library user services referring to "Family Place Libraries" - a network of American libraries which implement the concept of "family literacy". Methodology – The article is based on the analysis of the literature, in particular foreign publications. Conclusions have been supported with the author's own observations and experience. Results and conclusions – Taking into consideration the attractiveness and achievements of American family libraries, the author recommends the introduction of selected elements of this concept in Polish libraries. The article is intended to expand the general knowledge on library services for families and the youngest library users.
