Przedmiotem artykułu jest przedstawienie historycznych struktur architektoniczno- urbanistycznych w Ostródzie, służących w przeszłości jako miejsca stacjonowania wojska, oraz ukazanie ich obecnej sytuacji przestrzenno-funkcjonalnej. Kompleksy koszarowe po utracie swej pierwotnej funkcji stanowią potencjał, z którego zagospodarowaniem niezbyt dobrze radzą sobie samorządy lokalne. Niniejszy tekst jest próbą skonfrontowania sytuacji terenów pokoszarowych w Ostródzie z możliwościami ich pełniejszego wykorzystania do funkcji miastotwórczych.

The objective of this article is to bring forward Ostróda’s historical architectural-urbanistic structures, that in a past used to be a garrison, as well as to show their present spatial-functional status. After losing their primordial function, barracks complexes possess potential that local governments are not capable to take advantage of. The present text tries to confront the status of barracks remains in Ostróda with possibilities of their better use for city-forming purposes.
