Nie sposób analizować pogranicza literackiego w oderwaniu od czynników historyczno-poli- tycznych, a także uwarunkowań społecznych, gdyż postmodernizm spycha literaturę do poziomu zjawiska elitarnego. W artykule podkreśla się konieczność demitologizacji kulturowego pograni­ cza, która miałaby opierać się na przewartościowaniu przekonania o wyższości polskiej kultury nad kulturą kresową i zlikwidowania stereotypu „oddalonych narodów”. Występowanie podob­ nych motywów literackich na przylegających obszarach kresów według autora nie świadczy tylko o możliwości wpływów, ale także o niezależnym pojawianiu sie podobnych treści. Publi­ kacja zwraca uwagę na stymulującą funkcję pogranicza kulturowego, która wzbogaca dziedzic­ two narodów kresowych. Badacz interpretuje literaturę pogranicza w kontekście szeroko pojętej sztuki, której granic wyznaczyć nie można. Ponadto rozpatruje omawiane zjawisko w aspekcie duchowej przestrzeni, w której uczestnicy odnajdują swą tożsamość. Autor stwierdza, że nie sposób udzielić jednoznacznej odpowiedzi na nurtujące problemy pogranicza, jeżeli badacze nie będą podczas analizy omawianego zagadnienia syntezować komponentów historycznego i strukturalistycznego.

The subject of the present article is the phenomenon of the Polish-East Slavonic literary borderland. It is impossible to analyze the literary borderland separately from the historical- political factors as well as social ones since this very area is determined by the situation of postmodernism which, in turn, pushes literature down to the level of the elite phenomenon. In the article stressed is the necessity of demythologizing the cultural borderland that is supposed to consist in redefining the stand of superiority of the Polish culture over the borderland culture and eliminating the stereotype of "distant nations". According to the author, the availability of similar literary motifs in the adjoining areas of the borderland'does not only prove the possibili­ ties of manifold influence but also the independent appearance of a similar content. The publica­ tion emphasizes the stimulating function of the cultural borderland of literatures, which enriches the cultural heritage of the borderland nations. The resear cher interprets the literature of the borderland in the context of the widely perceived art whose borders are impossible to indicate. In addition, he views the phenomenon in question through the aspect of spiritual space in which its participants find their identity. In his conclusion the author states that it is impossible to provide unambiguous answers to the niggling problem of the borderland if researchers do not synthesize the historical and structuralistic components of the analyzed issue.
