Regular cleansing of farm machinery and equipment is a prevention method of pest control and one of the principles of integrated pest management. Results of a survey performed in the year 2014 among 54 farmers from different regions of Poland show that the majority of farmers are more or less aware that farm machinery can be a vehicle for propagation of harmful organisms. Less than 10% of respondents have no awareness of this risk whatsoever. Over 44% of them declared cleansing of farm equipment after each use, but the answers differed depending on the type of equipment. More than three quarters of surveyed farmers declared that equipment for application of fertilizers is cleaned after each use, while in the case of combine harvesters the cleaning after each use took place on 22% of farms.
