Przyjmuje się powszechnie, że Jadwiga Andegaweńska, królowa Polski i święta Kościoła Katolickiego, urodziła się 18 lutego 1374 r. Data ta została wydedukowana ze (skorygowanej) notatki w kalendarzu katedry krakowskiej, podającej, że tego właśnie dnia w r. 1386 Jadwiga zawarła związek małżeński z Władysławem Jagiełłą, odwoławszy uprzednio zaręczyny z księciem Wilhelmem Austriackim, z którym ją, czteroletnią, związali rodzice. Odwołać takie zaręczyny mogła tylko sama zainteresowana w ciągu 3 dni po ukończeniu 12 lat, na tym więc oparto hipotezę, że dzień ślubu Jadwigi był rocznicą jej urodzin, i że w tym dniu ogłosiła ona odwołanie zaręczyn. W opublikowanym artykule, po drobiazgowej analizie językowej kalendarzowej notatki, zestawianej z Annales Długosza, wykazano, że rocznica urodzin Jadwigi przypadała na dzień 14 lutego. Potwierdzają tę datę – pośrednio – akt krewski, wystawiony 14 sierpnia 1385, na 6 miesięcy przed osiągnięciem przez Jadwigę oficjalnej maturitas, oraz akt budziński, w którym matka Jadwigi wyznacza 14 sierpnia jako termin, przed którym ma zostać dopełnione dziecięce, ale nie dające się odwołać matrimonium z Wilhelmem. Dało się zebrać świadectwa, że Jagiełło świętował tę rocznicę i że po śmierci Jadwigi, w katedrze wawelskiej w dniu 14 VIII zostało odprawione uroczyste nabożeństwo za duszę królowej. Wzmianka o nim znikła z polskiej edycji Długosza wskutek elementarnego błędu w przekładzie i horrendalnego komentarza. It is generally believed that Queen Jadwiga Of Poland, a saint of the Catholic Church, was born on February 18 in 1374. This date has been deduced from a (corrected) note in a calendar of the cathedral of Cracow, stating that on that day in 1386 Jadwiga married Władysław Jagiełło, having cancelled her engagement to William of Austria to whom she had been betrothed by her parents. Since the engagement could be cancelled only by Jadwiga herself within three days after her twelfth birthday, it is speculated that the day of Jadwiga’s wedding was an anniversary of her birthday, and that it was that day when she cancelled the engagement. In the present article, after a detailed linguistic analysis of the calendar note, juxtaposed with Długosz’s Annales, it is proved that the anniversary of Jadwiga’s birthday was on February 14. This date is confirmed by – indirectly – the Union of Krewo made on August 14 in 1385, six months before Jadwiga officially became mature, as well as the Act of Buda, in which her mother set August 14 as a day before which Jadwiga’s infantile but impossible to cancel matrimonium with William was supposed to happen. There are testimonies that Jagiełło celebrated this anniversary, and that after Jadwiga’s death a solemn mass for the Queen’s soul was said on August 14 in the cathedral in Cracow. The notice of this mass disappeared from the Polish edition of Długosz’s records due to an elementary mistake in translation, and a horrendous comment. The article also discusses and corrects mistakes in translations in a few very important places in the Union of Krewo and the Act of Buda
