Introduction: Microneedling is a method known from the mid-20th century, but it only gained popularity in the 90s. The growth of its appreciation was due to the aesthetic medicine where it is used as the minimally invasive procedure primarily in treatment of acne scars. Aim of the research: The aim of the following study is to perform the review of the literature concerning microneedling with particular stress on acne scar treatment. Material and methods: Literature analysis was performed (literature since 2008) with the view to investigating the latest reports on the application and clinical results of the treatment performed using microneedling. Particular attention was paid to the treatment of acne scars. Results: Microneedling finds extensive clinical applications. A wide range of devices are available on the market allowing for the implementation of this procedure in numerous aesthetic medicine treatments. Interaction at the cellular level leads to the release of a number of cytokines and growth factors, which makes it possible to conduct therapies e.g. in the field of scarring and androgenetic alopecia, being an important element of primary and complementary treatment. As clinical trials show, the advantage of mesotherapy when compared to other methods is observed in the treatment of acne lesions. Conclusions: Fine needle mesotherapy is a promising method with a wide range of clinical applications. Safety combined with the low cost and the possibility of combined treatment, which, as clinical trials show, allows for effective treatment of dermatological diseases, in particular acne lesio
