Modern tendencies are marked by economic risk factors which compromise their ability to sustainable development. The article discusses the theoretical and methodological approach to strategic planning for the portfolio of innovative projects. It allows to realize economically reasonable and environmental safety projects that are focused on sustainable development concept. Problems of formation of the portfolio of innovative projects in the modern conditions of managing, is a major factor for the development of environmental economics and environmental protection in the region. Necessity of decision-making and coordination of ecological and economic interests of business and society encourages to consider the specific use of information instruments during the formation ecological-focused portfolio of innovative projects in the region. This research defines the key steps that will help to form the projects portfolio in the region and features of using of information instruments in this process, key functional stages of formation of the portfolio of eco-oriented of innovative projects in the region.
