This paper discuss issues related to measurement of research and development (R&D) activities using patent statistics, and the phenomenon of convergence into 16 Polish regions. The main discovery revealed based on empirical data analysis, is that compared regions show the very low level of convergence. However, it is worth to emphases high growth promotion (depending on the adopted criterion) of the following regions: lodzkie, zachodniopomorskie, swietokrzyskie, oraz lubuskie.
