From the point o f view of the land arrangement Wambierzyce (at present a village in Wałbrzych voivodship, the commune of Radków), situated 17 kilometers to the west from Kłodzko, represents a landscape and urban complex with distinct baroque features. Of primary importance there was the application of the so-called Calvary idea, i.e. a subordination of the urban organ to specific pilgrimage functions as wehl as a far-reaching aim to obtain an urban and arclitectural copy of Jerusalem. A very suce cessful introduction o f historic details into the structures that arto imitate Jerusalem buildings, the creation of the atmosphere of intentional theatricalness as well as an integral combination of architectonic elements of the setting and o f the existing landscape place the Wambierzyce Calvary amongst the outstanding European examples of this kind. At present historic monuments o f Wambierzyce are in a very bad technical condition, in 1972, upon the initiative of a priest from the Roman-Catholic parish of Wambierzyce, conservation works were undertaken, mainly in the basilica but also in some chapels o f the Calvary. The progress o f the works is unfortunately very slow, especially when compared to urgent needs. Besides, the lack of professional conservatory consultations has often resulted in the moves that give rise to serious reservations. A regular progress in the repair works undertaken is at present the top task in the field of the protection of Wambierzyce Calvary complex. The next step will be to undertake a full revalorization o f the object with a particular stress put on: — the architectural revalorization o f individual chapels, — the restoration o f composition values of the eastern frontage of the market square, — putting into order small field facilities, — the gradual elimination of structures spoiling a historic architectural arrangement and stylistic uniformity of the architecture, — the adaptation of transport network to present functional needs, — the reerection of buildings destroyed in the 18th and 19th centuries, essential to the general concept of the 18th century Calvary programme. It should however be noted that a regular inflow of means necessary to maintain the architectural substance of Wambierzyce can be obtained only through proper decisions and through factual realisations in the field of economic and spatial planning as well as through the establishment of dynamically developing town-creating bodies. According to the author, plans in this sphere should be aimed at a bread use of fine landscape, tourist, didactic and physiotherapeutic values o f the Radków region in the Kłodzka valley. In this concept the village o f Wambierzyce should be regarded as a closed complex in respect of its composition, and the first step to be taken in the process of its revalorization should consist in including it in art monuments and in delineating zones of the strict conservatory protection covering all urban buildings in Wambierzyce and all Calvary structures.
