PL
Głównym celem artykułu jest wyjaśnienie uwagi ekstensywnej, objawiającej się poszerzeniem pola percepcyjnego. Model ekstensywności vs. intensywności (E-I) uwagi opisuje:1) filtry uwagi, 2) zakres aktywacji sieci semantycznej i 3) czynniki motywacyjne. Filtry odpowiadają za równoważenie zakresu i głębokości przetwarzania informacji w ramach ograniczonej pamięci operacyjnej. Podstaw do wyjaśniania E-I uwagi dostarczyły przede wszystkim teorie: Posnera - sieci uwagi i Cowana - pamięci roboczej. Próbuję uzasadnić w jaki sposób motywacja parateliczna, albo koncentracja na zgeneralizowanych abstrakcyjnych celach, determinują szeroki zakres dostępnej pamięci i otwartość poznawczą na bodźce zewnętrzne. Postawiono hipotezę dotyczącą tego, jak te czynniki, razem z globalizacją przetwarzania, decydują o przedmiocie uwagi. Uwaga ekstensywna oznacza relatywnie płytkie, to jest zmysłowe i schematyczne przetwarzanie informacji, kosztem przetwarzania głębokiego - semantycznego. Zgodnie z wynikami badań wielu laboratoriów, globalne przetwarzanie informacji jest skutkiem takiej "szerokiej" uwagi. Artykuł zawiera ponadto opisy różnych stanów uwagi ekstensywnej i porządkuje je na wymiarze E-I.
