Wpływ dynamiki epizodów historii na zaangażowanie w jej treść

W czterech eksperymentach proszono uczestników badania o przeczytanie opisu historii. Historie składały się z tych samych epizodów, ale były one różnie aranżowane linearnie. Uczestnik badania otrzymywał losowo historię uporządkowaną w sposób dynamiczny, to znaczy epizody kończące się pozytywnie dla bohatera poprzedzały epizody kończące się negatywnie, lub historię mało dynamiczną, w której epizody pozytywne i negatywne były zblokowane. W eksperymencie 1 okazało się, że historie z dużą dynamiką czytane są z większą niepewnością co do dalszego toku historii, oraz jej zakończenia. W eksperymencie 2 i 3 okazało się, że historie z większą dynamiką wydają się ciekawsze i są bardziej angażujące uwagę, uczucia i zasoby poznawcze odbiorcy. Rezultaty eksperymentu 4 pokazują, że treść historii z większą dynamiką jest lepiej zapamiętywana. Wyniki potwierdzają koncepcję, że większa nieprzewidywalność przebiegu historii, powoduje silniejsze zaangażowanie w przetwarzanie jej treści a dynamika epizodów historii jest ważnym czynnikiem tej niepewności
