The opposition 'North - South' in the contemporary sense appeared in the 60s of the 20th century. However it gained publicity during 70s because of the then international situation. Construction of the world based on North - South division competed with East - West division and at the same time it was a part of the latter. From the very beginning those terms have met with various critical comments and some of them even have justified to leave those notions. Nevertheless 'North - South' is still enjoying popularity and even after the end of the cold war it gained more of it.
