The paper discusses the history of Silesian press studies in the period from 1911 till now with a particular focus on the following centres: Katowice (regional and local press), Opole (records of press studies and records of persecutions of Silesian press editors and publishers), and Wroclaw (research of the press in the 1940s and the underground press in 1974-1989).
