The analysis of law's influence on society can be brought down to three models. In the first one law is treated as means of achieving an expected social change. The second model regards law as a codification of common norms and it denies the possibility of using law as means of social change. In the third model the relation law - society is perceived as mutual while indicating that law can be used to provoke social change only to a certain extent. While most widely known theories can be regarded as descriptive and historical the hypothesis of the three modifiers of the law operation can be considered as a useful tool of analysis because of its abstractive and applicable approach.
