The topic of this paper concerns constructing and renegotiating adult teacher professional identity with taking into account all the tensions, making the whole process an open, dynamic and discursive activity. Its theoretical framework is Anthony Giddens' concept of identity's dilemma such as: unification versus fragmentation, helplessness versus control, authority versus uncertainty, personal experience versus market experience. The authoress refers to Giddens' dilemmas to show both adequateness and consequences for identity creation in relation to adult teachers in contemporary world. Her paper is also an invitation to a wider discussion about the condition and rethinking the concept of adults' education in a world of plural notions of knowledge, the world which is strongly influenced by market and creates risks as well as opportunities for individuals.
