The paper is based on the data from the Central Statistical Office concerning the number of the unemployed in gminas (excluding the division in urban-rural gminas). It indicates that in some regions significant changes in the rate of fall in unemployment could be observed, as well as distinctive regularities within their types (the size, location, functional specificity, etc.). Based on analysis, conclusions pertaining to deconcentration of the number of unemployed can be drawn, as well as to the ongoing spatial polarization associated with the level of unemployment (or its feeble decrease or increase within some categories). In the analyzed period, deconcentration and spatial polarization consisted in the faster fall of the number of unemployed in the best developed urban centers, however these processes were slower at the peripheries. At the same time, these differences were getting smaller with relation to the number of people in productive age. In total, concentration of the unemployed at the developed urban centers has decreased and their number has grown at the peripheries. At the same time, the differences between extreme categories (voivodship towns - rural areas) have been increasing. (original abstract)
