W artykule zanalizowano zależności pomiędzy procesami depopulacyjnymi, a zróżnicowaniem rozwoju obszarów wiejskich.

In the article the relationships between the depopulation processes and the rural areas differentiation were analyzed. These relationships have multi- faced interests and prove mutual connections. The surveys showed, that the main cause of the disadvantageous population phenomenon on the rural areas is decrease of so far existing employment level away from own agricultural households. In the paper the optimal development model of agricultural areas was presented. In communes, where smaller agricultural households are predominant — we can observe creating non agricultural workplaces and joining this kind of employment with the agricultural households managing. Whereas, in communes with beneficial areas structure of agricultural households or with possibilities to increase the area of agricultural households — supporting and creating modern, commodity farms, what provide their owners with the suitable income level. In these cases there are no premises for more substantial depopulation of rural areas and their existence's threats. (original abstract)
