Celem artykułu jest analiza wzrostu gospodarczego oraz jego czynników - kapitału, zatrudnienia oraz nakładów na badania i rozwój w krajach należących do Unii Europejskiej (UE). Opisano również zjawisko konwergencji, czyli doganiania poziomu gospodarczego krajów bardziej rozwiniętych przez kraje rozwinięte słabiej. Dane wykorzystane w artykule pochodzą z Eurostatu. This paper presents an analysis of economic growth and its main factors - capital and labor in the European Union in the years 1996-2009. On the basis of statistical data can be concluded about the impact ofthe countries' accession into the Community and the euro area on economic growth. However, due to the global financial crisis lower rate of investment and employment and the decline in economic growth since 2008. The paper has been obsereved presents also the formation of the expenditures value of research and development (R&D). Despite the implementation ofthe 2000 Lisbon Strategy the share of outlays for this purpose in GDP in the EU countries is still low, especially compared with countries such as the United States and Japan. On the basis of statistical data it has been found a negative correlation between the size ofthe initial GDP per capita and GDP growth in Europe in years 1996-2009. (original abstract)
