The 'Nauka Polska' Year-Book was the first Polish periodical devoted to science studies. Published in the years 1918-1938 under the editorship of Stanislaw Michalski, it played the role of a scientific mouthpiece for the Józef Mianowski Fund, an institution established in the second half of the 19th century. As well as discussing the origins, structure and contents of the periodical, the paper addresses issues related to the organisation and development of Polish science and the theoretical foundations for the newly emerged discipline: the science of science. The periodical provided a forum for discussing the status and needs of Polish science following regaining of independence by Poland. It was also a chronicle of scientific life that kept track of the emergence of new institutions.
