The Indo-US nuclear deal has the potentiality of historic dimensions. The USA went out of its way to accommodate India as a de facto nuclear power despite the protests from the anti-nuclear lobby both in the USA and abroad. The deal before its signing underwent many twists and turns in the USA as well as in India. Though the USA has made India a strategic partner in Asia, the rules of the game are not yet clear. How India fits in US perception remains to be seen.
