Regional issues are becoming one of the most important in sociological thinking. In sociological literature regionalism or New regionalism are indicated as phenomena related to ideology, social movements or regional tradition. The subject of the paper is analysis of Upper Silesian regionalism in two regions: Opole and Upper Silesia (former Katowice and nowadays Silesian Voivodeship) as discourse practice responding to creation of social movement or regional institution manifested Silesianness or Upper Silesianness. Social movement called Civic Committee of Opole Defense, social movement realizing Regional Contract for Katowickie Voivodeship and Movement for Silesian Autonomy were chosen as subject of analysis. All three cases show cutting off from state structures, negation of the state, independence of the region, possibilities of managing the region and its development, regional identity and identity of the region. The aim of the article will be to present the forms Upper Silesian ideology of regionalism created at the end of twentieth century.
