DRAMA AND CHOIR GROUPS IN THE ACTIVITIES OF THE WORLD ASSOCIATION OF POLES ABROAD

The main goal of the following article is to document part of the activity pursued by the World Association of Poles Abroad in the domain of cultural education. One of its arms has been setting up and management of theaters and choirs among Poles living abroad. Besides their artistic values, its function was to strengthen the ties with the old country and preserve the language. The existence of these was supposed also to create of link of commonality between people of Polish origin and produce a set of their own cultural values. To maintain the right artistic level of these groups, the World Association of Poles Abroad has been sending abroad various publications on dance, songs and technical instructions. The Association also helped financially, it has funded several prizes, send costumes, song-books, records. In Poland the Association organized training courses for Poles living abroad where the attendants from abroad were influenced with new ideas and were prepared to develop their work further with a right technical and mental mentoring. This support from Warsaw has substantially contributed to functioning of the Polish theaters and choirs abroad.
