The article aims to draw attention to some areas of unethical conduct by counselors, which are frequently omitted in the literature. The fact of the matter is that on many occasions the reality of counseling happens to be far from what one finds in the books. Pointing to the dark sides of counseling, normally left unsaid, the authoress describes undesirable behaviors, abuses and negligence towards those seeking advice. Moreover, an attempt has been made to answer the following questions: What risk do those seeking advice face? What kinds of negative conduct can counselors engage in while counseling? How can their 'dark-sided' actions be classified? What consequences can they lead to? It is crucial for counselors and those engaged in counseling process to be aware of negative influences that may come with it. Not only can this awareness make it possible to understand the weaknesses of people who offer help; it can also assist them in regaining control of their behaviors and actions, consequently leading to an increase in standards of counseling.
