Intercultural education as a field of social practice and intercultural pedagogy is a subfield of science using treasure of the humanities. Four dominating approaches to multiculturalism and intercultural education can be distinguished. They are specific for sociology, psychology, the science of history, culture and pedagogy. Tree of the approaches are mainly aimed at cognition, description and explanation of the phenomena and processes. They are not aimed at making changes in communities and human personalities. Intentional changes and the influence on people are the domain of pedagogy which builds on achievements of other fields of science and is created to support development and education of human beings. We can talk about a special purpose of intercultural education. Te article presents, apart from the four approaches mentioned earlier, the author's original concept of the analysis of theoretical and practical proposals in intercultural education.
