Life stories of seven Ukrainians were examined to construct types of Ukrainian identity and the appropriation of national culture. They were 22-28 years old, they graduated from the University (humanities). All of them were involved in the activity of Ukrainian cultural institutions. The analysis was concentrated on factors influencing creation of separation feeling and national self-description. They are as following: - opposition we - they (Ukrainians-Poles), - motivation related to dignity, - family history, - Ukrainian educational institutions, - legend of Ukrainian Army (UNA), - changing context o f the Polish People’s Republic (PAL) history. Elements of culture appropriation: - speaking Ukrainian language in private, - knowledge of folk art (particularly collective singing of folk songs), - valorization of rural style of life, - spontaneity of feelings, - Greek-Catholic confession, - output of Taras Szewczenko. Two contrastive types of Ukrainity were described by gradation of the relation between integral Ukrainity (endogamy) and double identification.
