The article concerns the role of the conversational pairs which decide of the comedy genesis. Moreover it proves that the pairs, consisting of two communicative sememes (meaningful communications), are the basic form constructing a comedy expression. An act of forming a comedy effect based on the semantic and axiological conflict of two compounded communications can be observed in the chosen texts of the cabaret ‘T ey ” from Poznań. The conflict leads to a disturbance and deviation in normative way of thinking, thus it generates comedy. A different structure of texts determined a division of jokes into one- or multisegmental, which are based on one or more conversational pairs enriched sometimes with an additional explanation. Examples show clearly that comedy arises always in the conceptual pairs. In spite of the existence o f different comedy mechanisms in texts their dominant cumulates always in the final part of a segment independently from its structure. Furthermore each segment containing a dominant creating comedy can be referred to as a sovereign joke which sum of generates the so-called cumulative comedy.
