Negacja jest konstruktywnym elementem liryki Bachmann. Określenie afirmatywna negacja nie jest tutaj efektownym oksymoronem, lecz nazwą zabiegu twórczego, jaki stosuje autorka Maliny w obliczu faktu, że „język nie zawiera ani jednego wy razu, o który naprawdę chodzi". Bachmann ucieka się do dynamicznego ujęcia znaczenia: jest ono każdorazowo zawarte między danym wyrażeniem a jego negacją. Odpowiada temu swoista budowa wiersza.
