Eoonomic applications of computers concern object systems for their most part. In many cases joint utilization of the same resources by many heterogenous objects becomes more economical. This constitutes a prerequisite for construction of a common coraputer-based information system. The transport activity illustrates analysis performed by authors on designing of common information systems (CIS). The article presents next the essence, principles of building, definitions of CIS, and criteria of including a given system into one of olasses. Taking into consideration the characteristic features of CIS there should be accepted the following principles of their designing: utilization of forecasting method during construction of concepts, application of the systems analysis method during selection of a branch, utilization of problem structuralization methods in finding a completely new solution, fixing of the so-called main system co-ordinator for organizational and functional structure of CIS, creation of economic mechanism inducing the interested objects to co-operate with the system, construction of decision structure being adequate for given CIS, legal regulation, assurance of comprehensiveness, multiplication, and standard character of a solution. The regional system in the case of transport creates prerequisites for elastic implementation of tasks facing transport, and, first of all, it ensures co-ordination of operations allowing for full utilization of transport means. It also makes possible accounting of operating costs of the rolling stock and better provision of spare parts.
