Disputes about the model of drama In the 19th century followed a non-typical course in Poland. They began among the writers' of transitional formation (F. Wężyk, K. Brodziński, J. Korzeniowski) with attempts to loosen the rules and discussions on Shakespeare. After 1830, in the period vfien their style flourished, the romantica rarely expressed their opinions on the theory of drama (A. Mickiewicz, M. Mochnacki), and their opinions show different approaches to theory, e.g. Krasiński ignored the determinants of the style. Słowacki deeply understood the dramatic form, Norwid create») ehe new form of "white tragedy". The variety of views and negligence of the pressure of the established style encouraged the development of roacntic drama. Towards the close of romanticism the style became conventional and the writers af successive generation showed no interest in search for a model.
