Abstracts
Statistical methods are an indispensable instrument for modern dialectological research which concentrates on the 'mutual influence of general language and dialects. Their usefulness is especially visible in phonetic research. The numerical presentation of linguistic phenomena must, however, be combined with differentiation between the official and unofficial character of the research situation during which the linguistic material is collected.
