The local government is one of the main issues of regional politics. Public interest is the base of all civil administration activities. The self-governing administration in decentralized country decides what is a public interest in local and regional territories. One of the most important activities of the self-governing bodies is international cooperation, especially the transborder cooperation in euroregions. The transborder regions use the special European public funds for underdeveloped and periferial regions. The euroregions have been established in Poland since 1991. There are two models of transborder cooperation: - self-governing - administrative-self-governing Already 38% of total country area and 33% of the whole population take part in the euroregion program which makes a substantial contribution to the regional development of Poland. The process of establishing and developing transborder cooperation has not been accomplished yet and there are still many areas to cover and a lot of potential ahead.
