This paper presents a short description of the integrated energy management and spatial planning concept developed within municipal sector, integrated approach to space and energy issue ought to be an important tool for implementation sustainable development in community, but it needs wider interaction between stakeholders, such as: local authorities, energy consumers, producers and distributors which existing in the city. It means that a new institutional and organisational tool ought to be developed to coordinate spatial (physical) planning and integrated resource planning technique, as well as other instruments (e.g.: financial, educational, material). On the background of the research which has been done in this field within 14 biggest cities in Poland, some conclusions and recommendation for Polish local governments and their management practices are presented in the final paragraph.
