The purpose of a paper is to show how being aware of learning styles can benefit both teachers and students. The results of studies (not well-known in Polish literature) investigating the effects of cognitive learning style (with respect to the Gregore model and the Kolb model) on academic performance in computer-based subjects (and also in mathematics-based subjects) will be presented. Moreover the teacher’s responsibility is emphasised to discover the judicious use of computer (or technology in general) as another tool in the arsenal of teaching that will guide students to exploration, discovery, practice, appreciation, and wonder at the world they inherit.
