Niniejszy tekst stanowi analizę wyników badań terenowych dotyczących rynku pracy i bezrobocia w powiecie bielskopodlaskim. Rynek pracy badano poprzez wywiad ankietowy wybranych podmiotów gospodarczych, reklamujących się w trakcie badań (1-12 VII 1999) w miejscowych massmediach. Informacje dotyczące bezrobocia uzyskano z Powiatowego Urzędu Pracy, a także z pytań zawartych w przeprowadzonej ankiecie. Niemniej ważne źródło informacji stanowiły obserwacje własne i rozmowy z mieszkańcami badanego obszaru, prowadzone przez studentów Instytutu Geografii Ekonomicznej i Organizacji Przestrzeni UL*, w ramach ogólnego tematu badawczego pt.: „Region Bielskopodlaski w procesie transformacji ustrojowej” . W kilku miejscach wykorzystano wyniki równolegle prowadzonych badań, dotyczących: warunków życia, warunków mieszkaniowych i percepcji religijno-etnicznej mieszkańców regionu Podlasia; uwzględniono również wyniki studiów OECD, przeprowadzonych w 1992 r. i opublikowanych rok później w książce Rynek pracy w Polsce, a także informacje podrozdziału „Nowy sens bezrobocia” z książki Tofflera Budowa nowej cywilizacji.

This paper is an analysis of the results of fieldworks on the labour market and unemployment in the Biała Podlaska District. The labour market was examined by a questionnaire survey conducted among selected enterprises that issued their advertisements in local media in the time of research (1st to 12th of July 1999). The unemployment date was drawn from various sources such as the district labour office, the questionnaire survey and direct observation and investigation made by students from the Institute of Economic Geography and Spatial Organisation of the University of Łódź. In some cases the researchers used the results of simultaneous studies concerning the standard of living, habitation and ethnic and religious perception of the inhabitants of the Podlasie region. The presentation took also in consideration the OECD studies carried out in 1992 and published in the book The labour market in Poland as well as the chapter entitled “A new sense of unemployment” from the Tofller’s work Building a new civilisation.
