This paper discusses development prospects and changes in agriculture in the opinion of fanners. The major issues included in the survey concerned factors stimulating and hampering agricultural activity, perception of economic situation of agricultural holdings, investments in agriculture, prospective development plans. The study has revealed low educational level of farmers coupled with poor non-agricultural qualifications and limited professional aspirations. Social behaviour of this group is guided by a ‘survival strategy’; they exhibit no interest in modernization and skeptical attitude toward transformation processes.
W artykule przedstawiono główne uwarunkowania rozwoju i zmiany w rolnictwie w opinii właścicieli gospodarstw rolnych. Obszarem badań było 5 gmin aglomeracji łódzkiej (trzy graniczące z Łodzią oraz dwie w zewnętrznej strefie aglomeracji). Stwierdzono, że większość rolników, podobnie jak rolnicy z innych obszarów Polski, ma niskie pozarolnicze kwalifikacje i aspiracje zawodowe. Właścicieli gospodarstw charakteryzuje rodzaj społecznego zachowania polegającego na strategii przetrwania, braku zainteresowania modernizacją oraz na negatywnym odbiorze procesów transformacji.
