Artykuł zawiera wybrane wyniki badań dotyczące fizjonomii ul. Piotrkowskiej w Łodzi. Opisano takie elementy fizjonomii, jak architektura, materiał budulcowy budynków i nawierzchni ulicy, materiał pokrycia dachów. Gruntownie, na podstawie opracowanej klasyfikacji warunków środowiska mieszkaniowego, zbadano stan techniczny budynków i nawierzchni ulicy oraz ilość i jakość zieleni miejskiej. W podsumowaniu zawarto przewidywane kierunki zmian w fizjonomii opisywanego obszaru.

The aim of this article is to describe changes in the physiognomy of the Piotrkowska Street - the main street of Łódź. it was shown that physiognomy of the Piotrkowska Street has changed after 1989, which was caused by the post-communist period of transformations in Poland. Many buildings have been renovated; a lot of new investments like offices, cinemas, and shops appeared on the Piotrkowska Street. The street surface, sidewalks and many courtyards were renewing after 1989. Another important issue is the infrastructure of the street, which was partly replaced with a new one or renovated. Revitalisation of the Piotrkowska Street was caused by changes in Polish political and economical system. This revitalisation is a result of actions that were taken mostly by the City Council in Łódź, but also private investments were very important in that process. The Street has now new image and it is finally the real centre of Łódź.
