While entering the European Union Poland agreed to join the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU), it means to introduce euro. Nevertheless, the actual path of joining the EMU is not cleariy set. Putting apart all the discussion about costs and benefits of the adoption of the euro it is clear that fulfilling the convergence criteria may create a problem of its own. It seems th at, as it was in the case of Mediterranean countries, the most important task is to fulfill the fiscal deficit criterion. In the case of Poland the task may be even more difficult, as the structure of the Polish public finance makes it more difficult to stabilize them.
