The research on the relations between economic stress and the value of secondary sex ratio (SSR) was initiated by Trivers and Willard (1973). The seminal study in this field speculated that smaller (than needed) consumption of goods and services might sufficiently stress human populations and make the secondary sex ratio lower. In order to verify the hypothesis that the observed time-series of secondary sex ratio (SSR) in Poland is declining with the deterioration in „economic conditions”, the ARIMA mathematic model of both analysed phenomena (according to the statistical procedure proposed by Catalano and Bruckner (2005)) was constructed. The analysis is an attempt to answer the question: if the statistically important decline of SSR in Poland after the Second World War was an effect of deterioration of economic condition.
