The economic crisis experienced acutely by the Polish society has assumed its severest form in construction. One of the factors hampering any attempts at over coming the crisis in this sectoris its high level of monopolization. All activities aiming at under mining the existing monopolistic structures may pave the way for creation of this construction market, with all benefits flowing from it for material and financial effects in this sector. The establishment of the Community Construction Enterprise (CCE) in the Łódź administrative province, which experiences consequences of the construction crisis more acutely than other areas in Poland, constituted the first majorat tempt at demonopolization of this sector on the provincial scale. Hence, the analysis of reasons behind the establishment of the CCE and especially of economic effects produced by its activity till the present day may provide interesting observations, which may be utilized in other similar experiments. The performed analysis indicates that although economic effects of the enterprise do not belong to quite favourable (they are worse than thoses cored by other comparable units) their steady improvement can be observed, which should be treated as the only positive fact permitting a dose of cautions optimism with regard to further developmental prospects of the enterprise.
