Intertextuality in such approach is based on the application of our knowledge to composition of the world of a literary text. The term ‘intertextuality’ refers to different ways of interpretation, while interpretations of a text depend on the knowledge about other texts of an author and numerous non-textual aspects. Equally important seems to be the layer of associated implied meanings. In the article it has been considered the methodology presented by Professor Lew Nowikow in his analyses of the poem by Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin entitled I have erected a monument to myself / Я памятник себе воздвиг… The category of intertextuality has been presented here on the examples of selected works by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov – satirical miniatures This and That (Poetry and Prose) / И то и се (Поэзия и проза); Questions and Answers / Вопросы и ответы as well as the short story The Baron / Барон. The observation of the problem in question has been widened to include the analyses of examples excerpted from the texts by Mikhail Mikhailovich Zoshchenko – his cycle of short stories Sky Blue Book / Голубая книга, and the play in three acts The Canvas Briefcase / Парусиновый портфель.
