The article outlines the necessity of prudential rules in regulating bank activities. Bank capital, being a cushion against the bank losses serves as an assurance of its stabile functioning. Therefore the main supervisory rules concern bank capital. The article presents Polish regulations marking out the limits of banking activities, serving to secure capital adequacy. Those regulations are based on international standards, basically the directives of EU.
