The seventies witnessed increased sensitivity of the Polish economy to changes in the world economy. It was mainly due to ineffectiveness of the national economy functioning system and to mistakes made in the strategy of development rather than to unfavourable impact of external conditions. This is confirmed by statistical estimates, qualitative analysis and theoretical deliberations about possibilities of adapting the centrally controlled economy to these conditions. Simultaneously, during the period under study there decreased isolation of the economy from fluctuations in the environment, which had been possible owing to co-operation with in the L’MEA earlier on.
