The author defines management-oriented and performance-oriented information systems. It is stressed through the paper how they differ from one another. This thesis leads to the fu ther considerations concerning a design of both systems in terms of the role each of the systems play; type uf data and information each of them employs; characteristics of thinking orientation through design process and characteristics of designing team skills. It is stressed that management-oriented system designing is an endless process, since it is oriented on the use of knowledge, whereas a design of performance-oriented system aims at the preplanned goal, since it is oriented at the use of data.
