The article is an attempt at quantification of the stats and development of municipal infrastructure in towns belonging to Łódź urban administrative province in the period 1975-1980 Particular facilities and level of municipal services ware measured by means of detailed indices referred to population size. Analysis of the data and development of municipal facilities in particular towns was based on two taxonomic methods allowing to reduce detailed indices to synthetic indicators. The obtained results allow to rank order the towns belonging to Łódź administrative province from the viewpoint of satisfaction of the population’s demand for municipal services. They provide an insight not only into the state and development of these facilities but also into their territorial differentiation. Conclusions afforded by the performed analysis are generally in line with social perception end views of organs executing the municipal policy in that administrative province. One of the elms of the analysis was to verify usefulness of statistical-mathematical methods for measurement end evaluation of development of municipal infrastructure.
